The new Mac Studio presented by Apple today at their first online event of the year presents a great collection of features. The tech specs really promise a super computer, especially regarding performance, which would be a great deal for creators.
The Looks
With it’s look that resembles a Mac Mini, it can be described as a Mac Mini but on steroids, due to its high performance, thanks to the new Apple Silicon chips.
The Mac Studio is manufactured by Apple in two versions: one with the M1 Max chip and another one with the new M1 Ultra Chip.
The Specs
On the specs side we can detail the following:
- Up to 20-core CPU
- Up to 64-core GPU
- Up to 128GB unified memory
- Up to 800GB/s memory bandwidth (hence the performance)
- Up to 8TB SSD
- Up to 7.4GB/s storage performance (impresive, it might be snappy with 4k or higher video files)
- Wi-Fi 6
- Bluetooth 6
- 10Gb Ethernet
- 4 Thunberbolt 4 ports
- HDMI
- SDXC card slot
- It drives over 90 million pixels and can run up 4 monitors
- Media engine with H.264, HEVC, ProRes and decode.
Great Performance
The great performance of this new Apple desktop computer comes from the new line up of Apple Silicon processors, but the one that comes with the new supercharged M1 Ultra gets all the bells and whistles
How Much?
The only drawback so far is the price. Mac Studio with M1 Max starts at $1,999. Mac Studio with M1 ULTRA starts at $3,999. With these prices, the new Mac Studio will be prohibitive for most users, with the exception of the professional creators and Business dedicated to professional content creation.
Even though the great performance offered during the Apple event is great, most of us, regular users, will have to wait until the prices are more affordable.
